Police: suspect injured in officer-involved shooting in Gwinnett County
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Investigators say a suspect has been shot by police officers in Gwinnett County Tuesday evening.
It happened around 7 p.m. in a residential area in the 1800 block of Prospect Road near Lawrenceville. The Gwinnett County Police Department said their gang unit was dispatched to the area to investigate possible criminal gang activity. Investigators said officers arrived to hear yelling from the rear of a home.
Officers went to investigate and ended up walking to through the woods to a property in the 1300 block of Alpha Drive, directly behind the first home.
Police said officers heard at least one gunshot and found the suspect on the back deck of the home in an argument with the resident, according to police.
Officers saw the suspect aim the gun at his own head and ordered him to drop his gun, according to police.
When the suspect moved his gun in the direction of the officers, police said the officers opened fire, striking him in the arm.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital. His name and possible charges were not immediately available.
