Police: Stranded driver struck and killed on I-85 in Union City

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - A person was struck and killed on Interstate 85 in Union City early Wednesday morning. 

Authorities said the male driver was stranded and was hit after he got out of his vehicle.

Family members on scene said they were talking to the victim on the phone. They said the man had told them some sort of accident took place and then the phone went dead. 

Police have not yet released the victim's identity. 

Investigators spent the morning redirecting traffic at Flat Shoals Road because the accident caused all lanes of I-85 northbound to shut down.
