Police search for carjacking suspects
ATLANTA - Residents are on high alert after Atlanta Police said a woman was held at gunpoint inside a Buckhead parking garage.
Atlanta Police said it happened at 2171 Peachtree Road inside the parking garage at the Mezzo Apartment Homes.
According to the police report, the victim was getting out of her BMW just after 12:30 Thursday morning, when she noticed a car pull up with four guys inside. She told police one of the men pointed a gun at her and said "give me everything," but the incident did not end there. The victim said she walked over to a column and stood there and that is when one of the guys came up to her and held the gun to her back, patted her down and asked "where is your phone."
“It’s the violence itself of having the guns, that is what is very concerning,” said Major Van Hobbs with the Atlanta Police Department.
Investigators said one of the crooks had trouble starting the BMW because it was a push-start, but eventually the thieves took off with the car and the victim's belongings. Just three miles away and 30 minutes earlier officers said there was another carjacking at a gas station on Northside Drive.
According to the police report, the driver of the Infiniti that was stolen had $28,000 in a safe inside of the trunk from his company's payroll.
“Both this vehicle and that vehicle were recovered at the same location earlier this morning, so they are both being processed for evidentiary value,” said Major Hobbs.
Atlanta Police said both vehicles were found on McDaniel Street in Southwest Atlanta. Officers said the safe inside the Infiniti was gone. Investigators said they are not ruling out the possibility that the two cases may be connected.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the gas station and cameras along Peachtree Road.
