Police: School resource officer arrested for DUI

A Polk County school resource officer has resigned after she was charged with driving under the influence over the weekend.

Officers in Rockmart, Georgia pulled over 38-year-old Officer Joy Grace Smith on Sunday morning at 2:15 after they say she failed to dim her headlights and remain in the same lane.

According to the incident report, the officer noted that Smith had admitted to drinking and smelled of alcohol.

The officer said after multiple tests they handcuffed Smith and took her to their squad car. At that point the officer said Smith told them "Are you serious? I'm one of you guys."

Officers cahrged smith with failure to dim lights, failure to maintain lane, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

She has since resigned from her position working at Polk County Schools.
