Police: Robber shoots victim, attempts another carjacking

DeKalb County authorities are on the hunt for a robber they call armed and dangerous, who allegedly shot at a victim in order to steal his cash and then attempted to carjack another driver.

"He didn't care who he hurt," said Sgt. Louis Pierre, who said detectives are investigating whether the suspect is responsible for other robberies or violent crimes in the South DeKalb area.

Police said the ordeal happened during the early hours on Friday, Aug. 18 at the BP gas station off Flat Shoals Parkway and Wesley Chapel Road. Authorities released video of what they describe as the gunman holding up the victim for his cash, but as the victim attempted to flee, the robber shot at the victim in the hand and the leg.

Police said the gunman, in an attempt to escape, tried to carjack another nearby driver unsuccessfully, then fled.

Detectives describe the gunman as a 5'9" African-American male with shorts, Converse Chuck Taylor shoes, hair styled in an afro, slightly bow legged, left-handed, and possibly from the South DeKalb area.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact DeKalb Police in their South Precinct at 404-286-7990.
