Police: Officer's weapon stolen from car

An Atlanta Police officer on duty to stop crime in a grocery store ended up being a victim of crime while working.

Officer Tyrone Hunt was working a second job last night at the Publix at 2900 Peachtree Road. Surveillance video from the store shows two crooks pulling up in separate vehicles about 10 p.m. and breaking into the officer's Dodge truck. Detectives said the thieves smashed one of the officer's back windows and stole his duty bag, which had his uniforms, rain gear and a personal pistol inside.

A few hours into the investigation the officer got a phone call from a motorist who said she found Officer Hunt's bag on the side of the road on Camp Creek Parkway.  The bag with most of the items still inside of it was retrieved, but the gun is still missing.

Police have also determined the thieves broke into at least three other cars earlier that evening. Detectives said they found property that belonged to car break-in victims from El Azteca Restaurant in the 1700-block of Peachtree Road on the Publix scene.
