Police officer shot while serving a warrant
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A Cobb County police officer was shot while serving a warrant on Friday morning in Austell, police said.
The incident happened on the 700 block of Six Flags Road. The Cobb County officer was assisting the Department of Community Supervision to execute an arrest warrant for 23-year-old D'Vonte Whitaker, who was wanted for a probation violation.
According to police, Whitaker was found in the bathroom, where a struggle started. During the struggle, the gun belonging to the DSC officer was fired and hit the Cobb County officer in the arm.
Whitaker was arrested and taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. He faces charges of felony obstruction.
The Cobb County police officer was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
