Police: Motorcycle officers injured in wreck

Authorities are investigating a crash which sent to Atlanta Police motorcycle officers to the hospital Monday afternoon.

It happened just before 5 p.m. in the 2100 block of Piedmont Road just north of Interstate 85. Atlanta Police the two officers were riding side-by-side northbound on Piedmont Road when a vehicle pulled in front of them; the officers did not have time to change direction and collided with the vehicle. 

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 5:20 p.m. and spotted motorcycles on the ground.

Police said the officers both were rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. The officers were alert, conscious, and breathing, but complaining of various aches and pains. They are expected to be okay. Their names have not yet been released.

The driver of the other vehicle did not suffer any major injuries.

Southbound lanes along Piedmont Road were shut down for about a half hour because of the crash.

Police said an officer responding to the scene of the motorcycle crash, got into an accident along Northside Drive NW near Interstate 75.
