Police in Cobb County believes weather may have been a factor in a deadly four-car accident early Tuesday evening which claimed the lives of a mother and her infant.

The crash happened in the 900 block of Windy Hill Road between Jean Place and the Callaway Road bridge just before 5:30 p.m. Cobb County Police said the driver of a green 2001 Nissan Altima lost control on the slick road and crossed over the median into the path of a gold 2004 Ford F-150 heading in the opposite direction. A black 2014 Dodge Durango rear-ended the pickup truck and ended up crashing into a silver 2012 Hyundai Genesis.

The driver of the Nissan, identified by investigators as Odyssey S. Abdur-Raheem, 32, of Gainesville, and her 1-year-old boy were killed in the crash. Two other children were also in the vehicle during the crash, a 7-year-old girl, who was transported by ambulance to Children’s Healthcare at Scottish Rite hospital in serious, but stable condition, and a 9-year-old girl, who was also transported by ambulance to Children’s Healthcare at Scottish Rite hospital, where she is under observation.

The driver of the F-150, Mario Melendres, 25, of Marietta was not injured, but a woman riding in the cab with him was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. A 10-year-old boy, who was in the back seat, was uninjured.

The driver of the Durango, identified as Monique Ballard, 36, of Austell, and the driver of the Genesis, identified as Leon Luster, 27, of Marietta, were both uninjured in the crash.

No charges are expected to be filed in the accident.
