Police: men exchange gunfire at Marietta motel

We now know the names of the two men involved in a double shooting at a hotel in Marietta on Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at the Rodeway Inn in the 2300 block of Delk Road just before 12:15 p.m. SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene just before 1 p.m. where a number of officers and patrol cars surrounded the hotel.

Marietta Police said 45 year old James Sherrell and 41 year old Tommy Peters got into an argument inside a hotel room. The fight spilled out into the parking lot and that's when shots were exchanged, according to police.

Sherrell was shot in the face while Peters was shot in the calf. Both were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital to recover. Police said both men will be detained following treatment. Police say they have secured three handguns in relation to the incident.

Sherrell faces charges felony aggravated assault with a weapon, as well as theft by receiving a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Meanwhile, Peters has been released from the hospital and booked into the Cobb Adult Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon. 

Investigators are questioning several witnesses.
