Police: Man says he was shot in elementary school parking lot

Officials are investigating a possible shooting in a Paulding County elementary school parking lot.

The Spalding County Sheriff's Office said that they are talking to a man in Spalding Regional Hospital who says he was shot this afternoon in the parking lot of Beaverbrook Elementary School.

Police say no evidence is pointing toward the possible shooting being related to the school.

No students or staff have been targeted or are in danger, the sheriff said.

The Griffin-Spalding County School District released the following statement regarding the shooting:

"The Spalding County Sheriff Department is investigating an alleged shooting incident that occurred at Beaverbrook Elementary School. According to the Sheriff’s Department, this incident was unrelated to the school, all students and staff remained safe, and there was no interruption to dismissal.  Beaverbrook Elementary School administrators are cooperating with law enforcement as they continue their investigation on campus. The safety and security of students, staff and parents remains our top priority and we are grateful for the Sheriff’s Department’s immediate response to this matter."
