Police are investigating a deadly shooting near a Union City motel Saturday morning.

Officers were called to a Motel 6 on Flat Shoals Road off of Interstate 85 at around 12:50 a.m. with reports of shots fired.

When they got to the scene, officers say they found a man "suffering from a gunshot wound" to his head. Medics quickly arrived on the scene and confirmed the man had died.

Witnesses tell FOX 5 they heard seven to eight shots fired around 1:30 Saturday morning. One person tells us she could actually feel her car shake with every shot as she sat in the close-by Waffle House parking lot. Witnesses say a low key party was going on overnight before the gun or guns went off.

While covering this story, FOX 5's Laura Neal saw at least two cars towed away from the scene. One had multiple shattered windows.

A witness who did not want to be identified says he sees a lot of trouble on this block. And he expects more trouble as the weather warms up.

“These kids have some serious guns on them... it’s summer time... it’s gonna get wild,” he said.

Union City police are asking anyone who may know about the shooting to contact Detective Oglesby at 770-515-7828.
