Police: Man accused of stabbing mom, brother surrenders
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A man wanted for attacking his own family in Lithonia is now in police custody.
Brandon Nash, 26, surrendered to DeKalb County officers just before 8 a.m. Tuesday after being on the run for four hours. Nash fled his Cherokee Valley Road home after police said he stabbed his mother and brother.
Police said Nash's mother died from her injuries and his 17-year-old brother is being treated for stab wounds to the head. The suspect's father told FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt that Nash hit him over the head with the lid of a toilet. He's being checked out at the hospital.
Investigators are now trying to figure out what prompted the violence. They canvassed the neighborhood and talked with Nash on the phone for hours before catching up with him at his girlfriend's home, about 5 miles away. They were concerned about his mental state of mind and worried he was armed.
No one was injured as police took Nash into custody.
Police said the father is now out of the hospital.
