Police said three young children are safe Thursday morning after family members reported they were kidnapped at gunpoint by their dad.

Police told FOX 5 News that the children’s mother, Tywanna Williams, returned home from the grocery store at about 4 p.m. Wednesday to find her three young children missing.

Williams' brothers were watching the children, Tyesha Hill, 5, Kameria Hill, 4, and Dominique Williams, 2, at a home on Garibaldi Street Southwest when their father Dominique Hill showed up at the house with three other males. Police said he was armed with a gun when he took the children. He left in a dark 4 door vehicle, driven by a woman.

Williams said the couple split in September and Hill hadn't seen the children in about a month. She told us she couldn't imagine why he'd take them.

"We've had arguments about where the kids are going to be, but I'd never think he'd do something like this," she said. "It's just crazy. I was shocked."

Williams believes Hill should have to answer for what she calls his reckless behavior.

"He should be arrested for it because you took my children from my home without my permission.  Pulled a gun out on my brother in a room with six kids," the 24-year-old mother said.

One of the biggest concerns was Williams' 5-year-old daughter, who is a special needs child and takes medication daily. The children were gone for about three hours by the time she arrived home. She said there is no phone at her house which led to a delay in police being alerted.

Investigators said they caught up with the kids at a relative's home nearly 9 hours later. They were taken to an area hospital to be checked out, but are expected to be okay.

Police said they now want to speak with Hill. Investigators want to sort through the circumstances of what exactly happened.

No word yet if any charges will be filed.
