Police: Driver hit officer with car in getaway
CLAYTON COUNTY - Clayton County Police continue to search for the woman who struck an officer with a car early Monday morning.
Officers with the Clayton County Police Department were dispatched to a home on the 1800 block of Marceau Drive in Conley at 1:10 a.m. responding to a call about a fight.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, when officers got to the scene, a woman in a car tried to drive off.
"That's when we heard the, 'Halt! Halt!' and then they backed up, hit the officer and I swear it had to be like 20 shots," said Keith Furlow, who lives in the neighborhood where the incident happened.
Officials said the driver hit an officer, pinning him against a patrol car. Another officer then fired at the fleeing vehicle, but the driver did not stop. Investigators said they later located the car abandoned about a mile from the scene with bullet holes in the rear.
"The female driver has not been located and has not been identified at this time," said GBI Spokesperson Nelly Miles.
Officials said the injured officer was treated at Grady Memorial Hospital for a broken leg. He has now been released and is recovering while on leave. The Clayton County Police Department has not released his name.
The GBI said their investigation into the incident remains open.
