Atlanta Police homicide investigators spend Saturday night canvassing a neighborhood where 18-year-old Ja'Carlos Jeffries was shot multiple times while sitting outside a neighborhood food mart.

The shooting happened Thursday around 10 p.m. outside Chan's Neighborhood Store on Fletcher St. SW. Police said a man wearing a heavy white winter coat, dark skinny jeans and carrying a duffle bag opened fire on Jeffries and fled.

Jeffries died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Saturday, detectives handed out fliers to neighbors and pedestrians and spoke to loved ones as they gathered at a vigil for Jeffries at the crime scene.

"I ask the person who did this to come forward because it was a [cowardly] act," begged mother Johnya Lewis. "My son was targeted-- and for what reason?"

Police told FOX 5 News they ruled out robbery as a motive.

Anyone with information is asked to call Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous and receive a reward up to $2,000.
