Police: Bus Collides with Van, Children Ejected

Police said that two children and a driver were rushed to the hospital after a Cobb County Transit bus t-boned their minivan.

It happened a little before 3 p.m. Tuesday on Windy Hill Road near Cobb Parkway. Smyrna Police said that two children were ejected in the crash. One was taken by ambulance to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, the other was transported by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital. A third child was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but their condition was not immediately available.

The driver of the minivan had to be cut out from the minivan. His condition was not immediately available.

Several people on the transit bus also complained of injuries.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene after the crash and found the transit bus with its windshield shattered out in the middle of the road. All lanes of traffic were blocked while crews worked to clear the accident, but the road was opened shortly before 5 p.m.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Cobb County released the following statement through their Twitter account Tuesday:

"Our thoughts & prayers are with the driver, children, their families and their caregivers involved in the accident in Smyrna this afternoon. As always, Cobb County staff will cooperate as needed with the city of Smyrna Police Department on the investigation as it progresses."
