Police: Boy, 10, Shot in Fulton County during Vigil

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Fulton County Police are investigating the shooting of a 10-year-old boy Tuesday evening.

It happened at the Sierra Townhomes located in the 2700 block of Godby Road. Detectives said that just before 9 p.m. some sort of vigil was taking place inside the complex during which an argument broke out. Police said that led to a fight and then shots were fired.

A bullet went through the wall of an apartment and struck 10-year-old boy in the arm. He was in the unit with his parents.

Police said they rushed the victim to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be okay.

We talked with a single mother of five whose SUV was shot up during the spray of bullets. Akisa Hopkins said she is grateful.

"I am just glad nothing happened to me and my kids because both of my back windows were shot out in my car," Hopkins said.

Investigators spoke with several people at the scene who said they were involved. Police wouldn't go into detail about possible arrests or suspect descriptions, but said there were lots of witnesses.

Police hope anyone with information comes forward and gives them a call.

NOTE: Initial reports suggested the boy was 12-years-old. Police said on Wednesday he's 10-years-old.
