Police arrest man after girlfriend's body found in burned car

Police have arrested an Eastman, Georgia man for arson after police discovered the body of his girlfriend inside a burned car in Georgia.

Special Agent Scott Whitley with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the body was found in a white BMW under the Gum Swamp Bridge off State Highway 117 in Dodge County on Saturday morning.

The car was discovered after a passing motorist smelled something burnt and contacted police.

Inside the car, police discovered a body, now identified as 50-year-old Michelle Bazemore.

Police have now identified the car as belonging to 48-year-old Doug Sheriff, Bazemore's boyfriend.

Authorities took Sheriff into custody. He's now in the Dodge County jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
