Police: APD Officer Shoots Suspect During Home Invasion
LITHONIA, Ga. - An off-duty Atlanta Police officer shot a man early Sunday after that man allegedly tried to break into the officer's home.
Authorities said the man was one of several suspects who kicked in the house's front door and then opened fire.
According to DeKalb County Police, the officer, identified as Officer David Sutton with the Atlanta Police Department, exchanged gunfire with the burglary suspects, striking one at his home on Wolverton Circle in Lithonia. Officer Sutton was not hurt during the shootout.
Shortly after the shooting, a man was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of DeKalb Medical Hillandale Hospital. Investigators believe that was the same man the officer shot. That man has been arrested and police said he is connected to the attempted home invasion.
As of Sunday afternoon, officers were unsure of the suspect's condition. If you have any information on these suspects, you're asked to call the DeKalb County Police Department.
