Police: 7-year-old Griffin boy accidentally shot by 8 year old

Police said a 7-year-old boy was shot by an 8-year-old child at a Griffin apartment complex Monday evening.

The Griffin Police Department said they respond to the Griffin Crossings apartment complex to find that boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was flown to an area hospital. His condition was not immediately known, but police said he was rushed into surgery.

Police determined the 8-year-old child found the .45 caliber handgun inside an apartment while home alone. Police said the two children were playing with the weapon when it was accidentally discharged.

Investigators said they do not suspect foul play.

The Department of Family and Children Services is assisting in the case.

No word on possible charges.
