Investigators said a dispute of a restaurant bill led to two people being shot at a restaurant in the Panthersville neighborhood Wednesday evening.

DeKalb County Police said employees at the China Cafeteria located at 2910 Rainbow Drive confronted a customer who they said did not pay. Police said the customer assaulted them.

The scuffle ended up about a block north of the restaurant in the parking lot of the Burger King located at 2682 Candler Road.

Investigators said an employee fired a shot at the customer, while also mistakenly injuring another employee. Authorities said that employee was listed in stable condition Thursday evening.

Police said the customer was critically injured and was taken into police custody. That person’s charges were not immediately known.

Initially, officers believe the gunman shot himself, but that later turned out to not be the case. Police charged the employee who fired the shots with aggravated assault.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.
