The 9-year-old Pickens County girl who was the center of a late-night abduction alert Friday has been found safe.

A Levi’s Call, Georgia’s Amber Alert System, was active for Skylar Lashay Hunter who authorities said was last seen in the 100 block of Apple Lane near Jerusalem Church Road near Jasper around 6:45 p.m., according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said 31-year-old William David Hunter assaulted the girl’s mother before taking off with the child.

Skylar was considered to be in extreme danger by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, but very early Saturday morning, authorities announced both had been located and were safe.

Investigators were told by the mother that she believes William is under the influence of drugs which she believes led to the assault and abduction.

The name of the mother has not been released. Her condition was not immediately known.

No word on charges.
