Pickens County deputy recovering after wreck
PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. - A Pickens County Sheriff's Deputy is recovering from surgery Monday evening, a day after being involved in a two-car wreck.
It happened around 5 a.m. Sunday on Georgia Highway 515 near Noah Drive in Pickens County.
“His vehicle did roll over several times during the collision causing him to be ejected during the rollover,” said Captain Kris Stancil of the Pickens County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Rick Hales' vehicle rolled over and he was thrown from the car, according investigators. He was airlifted to Kennestone Hospital. Authorities said he was alert and conscious at the time.
The driver of the other car, whose name has not yet been released, was also injured. That driver is in serious condition as of Sunday.
His colleagues said Sergeant Hales has been a law enforcement officer for more than 20 years. So far, authorities haven't released the name of the other driver. Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.
