Peach Drop 2016

ATLANTA - Happy New Year 2016!

Tens of thousands packed the streets around Atlanta's Underground to ring in 2016 with 27th annual Peach Drop.

Police said crowds were a little smaller this year, but no less enthusiastic. An estimated 85,000 took part in this year's Peach Drop.

Atlanta police told FOX 5 more officers were on patrol during the festivities, but the celebration went off without any issues.

Many had feared there would not be a peach drop this year. The change of the Underground's ownership left the annual event in jeopardy.

Despite those fears, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced in November funding had been obtained, and the Peach Drop would go forward.

Before the Peach Drop itself revelers were entertained by the band Sister Hazel, and Hip Hop Star and Atlanta native T.I.

Everyone Fox 5 spoke to said this was simply an event they could not miss.
