Pastor's stolen classic car recovered; thieves still at-large
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Good news for a metro Atlanta pastor who had a classic car he was restoring stolen right out of his garage.
Pastor Donnie Skidmore said Wednesday some alert residents of Hampton spotted his 1968 Pontiac Firebird and called the police. The pastor said the eagle-eyed Good Samaritans first saw his restored beauty on FOX 5 News at 10 on Monday.
Clayton County Police are still looking for the two men in an SUV seen in surveillance video last week stealing the one-of-a-kind classic car while Skidmore was at church. The pair can be seen attaching a rope or chain and towing the car away because it does not currently start or drive
Skidmore said he has been restoring the Firebird with a friend of his when he’s not ministering. He described it as a labor of love. The pastor said they have installed tens of thousands of dollars in upgrades making the car worth at least $50,000.
The pastor said the most difficult thing was telling his friend about the theft.
Skidmore described the two men responsible as being between 5'8" and 5'10" tall.
Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately.
