One man dead following house fire in SW Atlanta

ATLANTA - Atlanta Fire officials tell FOX 5 an elderly gentleman is dead after a fire tore through his southwest Atlanta home.

Around 2:30 a.m. a neighbor called 911 to report a house on fire off Pegg Road near Pomona Circle.

Within five minutes, officials say the first firetruck arrived on scene.

Officials say the the house was already up in flames and debris had started falling.

Atlanta Fire says a neighbor notified them that an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair lived in the home and may still be inside.

Once inside the home, officials say they found the elderly gentleman dead.

Fire investigators are working to figure out exactly what caused the fire.
