Officials: Parents arrested in major heroin trafficking bust

A major drug bust in Cobb County has ended in two arrests, and deputies say that this bust is part of a much larger drug trafficking cartel in metro Atlanta.

Authorities say they found 8 kilograms of heroin in a home in Austell and they estimate it's worth around $400,000. 

During the search authorities arrested two people, 32-year-old Juan DeJesus and 28-year-old Renya Maria Romero. FOX 5 News also found out from investigators that a 2-year-old child was living in the home and had access to the room where the drugs were found.

Man in the Austell community are disturbed after hearing that Cobb County SWAT and the Department of Homeland Security found bags and bags of heroin inside a home on Veteran's Memorial Highway.

"That's kind of crazy," neighbor Sharon Simon said. "It's very very close to me, and I live just up the street."

News of the drug bust has sent shockwaves through this small community, but a lot of neighbors said they've seen officers out at the home numerous times in the past.

Both suspects have been charged with trafficking heroin and reckless conduct and have been transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center with no bond.

The young child was taken into protective custody, as officials say there were no available relatives to whom the child could be released .
