ATLANTA - A construction worker had to be rescued from a hole he fell into while performing utility work Friday afternoon.
DeKalb County Fire Rescue spokesperson Captain Eric Jackson said the man fell down a 20-foot hole while working on a new wing at Emory University Hospital. Fire crews were called out to the area around Clifton Road and Gambrell Drive just after 2:40 p.m.
Jackson said workers at the scene used ventilation fans and a hazard monitoring device to keep the man safe until rescue crews arrived on the scene.
Two firefighters went down into the hole to help hoist the man out. He was alert, conscious and breathing when he was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.
The construction worker’s name and details on the extent of his injuries were not immediately available Friday afternoon.
