Newton County Deputies Seek 3 Armed Robbers

COVINGTON, Ga. - Newton county deputies are searching for three men who robbed a college student at gunpoint. The attack happened on Salem Cove Trail as Joseph Richardson walked home from The Dollar General after buying his grandmother some chips.

Richardson, who moved to Georgia from New York, said he noticed three young men watching him as he walked to the store last Tuesday. The 21-year-old said once he got into his subdivision the robbers pulled out a handgun and ambushed him.

The primary suspect pointed the gun at him and said, "Give it up", Richardson said. The Georgia Perimeter College student said he was shocked.  

"I thought they were going to shoot me after they took my jacket, cell phone, watch and chips," Richardson said.

The New York native said he was use to robberies in New York, but was really surprised someone would pull a gun on him in quiet Covington.  Richardson was able to give investigators a description of the gunman. They have since made a sketch.
