National Guard helps in Kings Mountain sexual assault investigation
KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC - The King Mountain Police are investigating a sexual assault that happened Sunday afternoon.
Officers responded to a sexual assault around 2 p.m. on West Gold Street near the intersection of Phifer Road.
A juvenile who was walking west along West Gold Street was attacked from behind by a white male, according to police.
The victim was able to yell for help and physically fight off her attacker who walked away from her on foot heading on West Gold Street.
Officers say there were several witnesses, including members of the NC Army National Guard that were in the motor pool of the Armory on Phifer Road.
These witnesses came to help the victim and were able to catch up to the suspect on West Gold Street and hold him until police arrived.
Police identified the suspect as Kyle Matthew Moore. He was arrested and charged with second-degree sexual offense and sexual battery.
He is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond. This investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are possible.
