The mother of a Savannah State University student who was fatally shot in the school's student union is asking for help finding her son's killer.

The Savannah Morning News reports Sharron Starks traveled from the Atlanta area and spoke at a church Tuesday. Officials have said 22-year-old Christopher Starks was shot in August during a fight at the school's student union.

Cathy Sapp, agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's local office, says the investigation into Starks' death is ongoing and authorities are working leads as they come in.

An attorney for Starks' family, Shean Williams, is asking the university to improve its security protocol considering the campus has security guards and a police department.

School spokeswoman Loretta Heyward says campus safety is the university's top priority.
