A woman in St. Petersburg died Sunday afternoon after police say she was shot while eating breakfast on her porch.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 a.m. in a residential area on 45th Street South.

According to police, 38-year-old Aesha Kendrick was shot when the suspect, 28-year-old Jamel Walker, opened fire at a passing truck. Kendrick was not the intended victim, according to police.

Walker is currently under arrest, facing second degree murder charges.

Kendrick, a mother of five, just started a new job as a nursing assistant. Her father, Paul Lucas says she had a gift for caring for people.

"I'm going to miss my daughter's smile. I'm going to miss the love she had for me and the love I had for her."

Kendricks's fiance, Octavious Keys, still grieving, is trying to focus on helping raise five children.

"I'm just trying to let them know that I'm here, I'm not going anywhere."

Police in St. Petersburg are just as shocked as family.

"It's a very sad situation. On a Sunday morning, a woman just having breakfast on her porch and the house was full of children," said Yolanda Fernandez, a police spokeswoman. "No one else was injured, at least that's a good thing, but it's very, very sad for the family now."

In a strange twist, Keys says he knows the man who police say killed his fiance.

"I can forgive you, but I can't right now, it's kind of hard."

Walker is expected in court Monday morning.
