A teenage girl missing since this past week has been found safe, according to Atlanta Police.

"Just totally out of character, just a good girl, she doesn't get in trouble. She does well in school. This is very strange," said mother Luana Slaughter.

Nya Slaughter, 14, was last seen near her East Lake home on Saturday, according to Atlanta Police. Relatives said she went for a walk and never returned. Nya's mother said the teen always goes for walks in the neighborhood, and nothing like this has ever happened.

"I'm realistic the dangers that exist in Atlanta, all over the nation with sex trafficking of young girls- that's been my overarching worry... is the whole sex trafficking pieces and how they're so savvy and can convince the smartest girls to become involved in that," said Luana.

Thursday family, friends and community members gathered outside the Atlanta Edgewood Target to come up with a game plan to search for the missing teen

"It's very heartwarming to see that people care," said Luana.

Hours after gathering to search for Nya, word from the Atlanta Police Department that she was found and was safe. Details surround her disappearance were not immediately available.
