Missing 61-Year-Old Woman Found Safe
A 61-year-old woman reported missing from Newton County late Monday morning was found a few hours later, according to authorities. The Newton County Sheriff's Office says Brenda Thompson was located after being involved in a single car crash in DeKalb County. She was taken to Grady Hospital for treatment.
Immediately after her disappearance, deputies were concerned that Thompson may have been kidnapped.
Investigators learned shortly before noon on Monday that Thompson had disappeared. According to detectives, she went to the Kroger on Highway 20 in Covington with her husband, so he could get medication. Thompson stayed in the car with the car keys while her husband went inside the store.
Investigators said Mr. Thompson was walking back to his car and realized it was missing.
Deputies said that a few hours later, Thompson was driving alone when she struck an object.
Authorities said no foul play was involved. Thompson is being treated for her medical conditions and dementia at Grady Hospital.
