Georgia elects first representative born after 2000

Rep. Bryce Berry, 23, won his race for the 56th district in a landslide. That makes Berry, born in 2001, Georgia's first representative to be born after the year 2000.

ATLANTA - In a historic moment for the Georgia House of Representatives, Bryce Berry, a 23-year-old born in 2001, was sworn in as the first member born after the turn of the millennium.

Representing the 56th District, Berry secured his seat with a landslide victory against Republican incumbent Mesha Mainor. He had more than 80% of the vote.

He said he believed the strong support he received from his constituents proved how much his platform built on change resonated with them. During his campaign, Berry focused on key issues such as ensuring that a single job can cover living expenses, investing in public education, and expanding Medicaid.

Berry is a proud graduate of Morehouse College, and he currently serves as a seventh-grade math teacher in Atlanta.

He said he hopes to use his new legislative role to positively impact the teachers and students across Georgia.

Berry's community inauguration was held Saturday afternoon at West Mitchell Street CME Church in Atlanta.
