Massive business fire in southwest Atlanta

Firefighters spent hours Friday battling a 2-alarm fire at a business facility in southwest Atlanta.

The ordeal happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Delowe Drive near Campbellton Road. Fire crews arrived to find a building housing multiple businesses, with flames shooting through the roof. The fire caused the roof to collapse.

It's unclear what caused the fire, but an investigation is ongoing.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but firefighters on scene reported the fire started in the upstairs portion of the building, or the attic.

Workers inside a restaurant said they were evacuated to the other side of the street. Other businesses in the structure include a barbershop and a hair salon.

Firefighters used cranes to spray water onto the roof of the building. Crews said the roof collapsed, and could not enter the building.

Firefighters will monitor the scene until the morning, when crews will attempt to enter the structure.
