March is Read Across Georgia month

The month of March is Read Across Georgia month and the celebration kicked off at the State Capitol Monday morning.

Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal held their Get Georgia Reading Day.

During the event, First Lady Deal read from an unreleased children's book that was written, illustrated, and published in Georgia.

The First Lady said reading is crucial and gives children the ability to decide their own future.

Read Across Georgia Month started in 2012 it is part of the governor's grade-level reading initiative that aims to get all third graders in the state reading at grade level or above.
