Man sentenced for molesting young girl with autism

A Hampton man was sentenced for molesting a 10-year-old girl with autism.

Edward Spencer, 61, entered a guilty plea Wednesday on two counts of child molestation. Spencer admitted to a Henry County Superior Court judge he performed sex acts on the girls inside a Hampton home while she was sleeping back in July 2018.

Spencer was sentenced to 30 years, having to spend at least 18 years in prison, and must register as a sex offender.

"The family is pleased with the outcome and that the defendant is going to prison for a long time," District Attorney Darius Pattillo was quoted as saying in a release sent to FOX 5 News. "Mr. Spencer targeted this victim because of her age and disability. We will not tolerate predators like this in our community and we will continue to aggressively prosecute them."

Spencer also was ordered not to have contact with either the victim or her family.
