Man sentenced for attacking ex-girlfriend, taking son

An Kennesaw man will spend the next 30 years in prison for attacking and trying to kill his former girlfriend in front of their 5-year-old son.

Joseph Davis pleaded guilty to a list of charges including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and cruelty to children.

Investigators say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's Kennesaw apartment while she was at work in February of 2015 and hid in the closet.

When she and her son came home, Davis attacked her and stabbed her seven times.

She played dead to get him to stop.

Davis then took their son, leading to an Amber Alert being issued.

DeKalb County Police found Davis the next morning and arrested him.

The little boy was not hurt.
