For the second night in a row gunfire rang out at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

Just before 1 a.m. Wednesday police responded to the Parke on Covington complex on a shooting call. Witnesses told FOX 5 News they heard multiple shots fired.

Officers on the scene said the man was sitting on a stoop when he was shot in the hip. The victim was rushed to Grady Memorial, where he is expected to survive.

A grey dog was also shot. Police don't know if the animal was targeted or possibly hit by a stray bullet. The dog's condition wasn't known when animal control removed it from the scene. Officers working the case expressed interest in adopting the dog, if it survives.

Police said the same complex was the location of another shooting the night before. A bullet hole from the earlier deadly shooting could be seen in a white Sonata parked in the complex lot Wednesday morning.

Investigators said it's too early to know if the crimes are connected.  No arrests have been made in either shooting.
