Man gets life for violent 2016 home invasion in Samson

GENEVA, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a 2016 home invasion of an elderly couple and was given a life sentence.

The Dothan Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/2rVYUcm ) Geneva County Circuit Judge Bill Filmore sentenced 21-year-old Sebastian Tolbert Jr. of Taylor to life in prison on each of six felony counts. The sentences will run concurrently.

Tolbert pleaded guilty Friday to attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy and first-degree burglary.

The incident occurred when Tolbert and two others broke into the Samson home of a couple, both 74-years-old, and took money and other items. Tolbert assaulted the couple in the process of the robbery.

District Attorney Kirke Adams says the community is a lot safer with Tolbert in jail. He described Tolbert as evil.
