Man arrested for DeKalb County home invasion, murder

Police in DeKalb County said they made an arrest in a deadly home invasion which happened at the end of the last month.

DeKalb County Police said it happened Sept. 30 around 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of McClendon Drive. A police report stated the wife was sitting on the patio when two men approached. She wrestled with one of the men while the other went after her husband, the report states.

The husband was shot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died in en route.

Investigators identified the victim as Teddy Mierzwa, the owner of the landscaping company Garden Gnomes who was well-liked in the community.

Police described the discovery of drugs in the home as "large sums of narcotics" and did not elaborate on their find. The wife, Gracie Beavers, was arrested on charges of trafficking marijuana.

Warrants were issued two days later for 37-year-old Brandon Lowe in connection to the crime. Wednesday, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said their Fugitive Unit and US Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Lowe into custody at a business location near Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. He was booked into the DeKalb County Jail and charged with home invasion and murder.

No other suspects have been identified.
