Man arrested after allegedly using backhoe to break into gun shop

A man was arrested after police say he used a backhoe excavator to break into a gun shop, according to the Lawrenceville Police Department.

25-year-old Brandon Andrew Chaney was charged with burglary and theft by taking, according to police. Authorities say that additional warrants were obtained on Chaney by the Lilburn Police Department for similar activity several hours later the same morning.

The incident occurred on June 20 around 3:25 a.m. at the Bullseye Indoor Range and Gun Shop. The store is located at 221 W. Crogan Street in the downtown square.

Police say Chaney had an unsuccessful attempt to enter the business through the rear door, and that is when he started using the backhoe from an adjacent construction site.

Chaney caused extensive damage to the shop, according to police. He was arrested on July 27.
