Livermore babysitter arrested for child abuse
LIVERMORE, Calif. (KTVU) - Police in Livermore have arrested a 20-year-old babysitter in connection with a child abuse case. According to prosecutors, Moriah Gonzalez, 20, of Livermore, was caught on a nanny-cam that was hidden in the baby's bedroom abusing the child. The child is said to be doing okay.
Gonzalez has been arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, according to the Livermore Police Department. She's free on bail and due in court on Friday.
Officers on Feb. 18 initiated an investigation into a report of the physical child abuse of a 13-month-old infant by the family's caretaker.
According to a police report, Gonzalez was pacing the room while the 13-month-old cried. The report states at one point Gonzalez appeared to put her hands on the child's face, muffling the cries. The footage showed the child squirming before going limp. The baby was then put down for a nap.
Following an investigation into the alleged child abuse, detectives arrested Gonzalez.
Detectives learned Gonzalez had advertised her care taking services on Care.com, and police are asking anyone who used her services or knows someone who used her services is asked to call the Livermore Police Department at (925) 294-7531.
Police said the investigation in ongoing and is sensitive in nature, so additional information is not being released at this time.
