Liquor store burglars thwarted by alert citizen
ATLANTA - It worked once, but not twice. Atlanta Police said thieves broke into a liquor store in East Atlanta. But before they grab some bottles, a police cruiser was on its way to the Little Five Points Liquor Store.
There is surveillance video showing the men scurrying back out the door and into a getaway vehicle.
In early January, three to five men were seen in what’s believed to be the same white BMW breaking into that same liquor store and grabbing cases of premium liquor including Hennessy and Patron, both very popular.
The losses from that first burglary totaled nearly $15,000.
In the most recent break-in, police credit a citizen with throwing a monkey wrench into the burglars' plans. The citizen saw them pull up and thought something didn’t fit. The passerby called 911 and that led enabled an officer to arrive moments after the store alarm ran out.
