The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Butts County on Wednesday.

It happened around 3 p.m. at a home located in the 200 block of James Moore Drive in Jackson. According to the GBI, officers responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute and possible firearm. They were greeted by Linda Lagano, who told police her husband, Thomas Lagano, was "being belligerent and had been recently consuming alcohol."

The GBI said Mr. Lagano saw the officers from the garage area of the home and that's when he went back inside. Soon after, police said, Lagano came out through the front door holding a firearm, pointing it in the air.

Officer Kevin Hill told Lagano multiple times to drop the weapon, but he didn't listen, according to investigators. Instead, he lowered the gun toward Officer Hill.

Officer Hill said he was forced to fire one round, striking Lagano, according to GBI investigators. Mr. Lagano was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he's being treated for his injuries. No word on his condition.

The responding officers, including Hill, were not injured during the incident.
