Issues at historic Atlanta cemetery

City officials in Atlanta are investigating how new construction is impacting a historic cemetery off Lenox Road.

It sits next to where the old Piney Grove Church used to be. People visiting family buried there said they want the cemetery preserved, but lately they've been finding construction debris all over the lot.

Even worse, some believe the grave markers have been touched, and some graves possibly moved.

The neighborhood is part of Councilman Howard Shock's district. His staffer and neighborhood planner Sally Silver said, other than the construction debris, the other issues were likely vandalism.

Silver vowed that with the help of the developer, there will be first a clean-up and then a restoration of the historic cemetery property.
