Isakson focuses on Peace Corps volunteer in first Senate ad

ATLANTA (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson highlights legislation he co-sponsored to protect Peace Corps volunteers in a new campaign ad in his race against Democrat Jim Barksdale.

Isakson on Monday released the ad focused on Kate Puzey, a volunteer from Georgia murdered after she reported a local colleague for allegedly molesting girls they taught in Benin, West Africa.

Puzey's mother speaks about her daughter in the ad, before crediting Isakson with helping "get justice" for Puzey's death in Benin and passing legislation focused on Peace Corps volunteers.

Isakson's campaign says versions of the ad will run statewide but didn't release how much it plans to spend.

Barksdale hasn't yet run an ad in the general election. Several ads rolled out before the May primary focused on introducing Barksdale, a first-time candidate, statewide.
