Iran latest: House votes to curb war as US and Iran trade strikes

U.S. Central Command confirmed conducting strikes on Iranian targets on Tuesday in response to attacks by Tehran that were either thwarted by American forces and their allies or never reached their intended targets.

The U.S. military described its strikes on Qeshm Island as self-defense after Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles at targets in Kuwait and Bahrain. The missiles either did not reach their destination, fell apart en route, or were stopped by U.S. or Bahraini air defense forces. No U.S. troops were injured nor were any American assets damaged in either attack, CENTCOM stated.

CENTCOM also reported disabling a ship that had tried to run the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports. The military released a video showing a Hellfire missile striking the engine room of a Botswana-flagged ship. The ship’s crew had ignored multiple warnings over a 24-hour period prior to the incident, the military noted. It is the sixth vessel disabled by U.S. forces since the blockade began. Another 122 have been forced to alter their course.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is pushing back on reports that peace talks between the U.S. and Iran have ceased. In a post, the president wrote that negotiations have been continuous and warned Iranian leaders, "It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a deal."

Here’s the latest:

House moves to halt US action in Iran

5:25: p.m. ET: The House approved a war powers resolution Wednesday that would halt the U.S. military action against Iran, defying President Donald Trump as a handful of Republicans joined with Democrats to end the three-month-long war that has reordered politics at home and abroad.

House Speaker Mike Johnson had tried to prevent an outcome that would show the mounting opposition to the war, abruptly shutting down floor action two weeks ago when the war powers resolution was on the verge of approval. But displeasure has only grown as the conflict drags on and as Trump struggles to negotiate a quick resolution.

The roll call Wednesday was 215-208, and cheers erupted in the House chamber.

Rubio hopeful Israel and Hezbollah to reach agreement

12:24 p.m. ET: Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he was hopeful that a second day of talks between the governments of Israel and Lebanon would produce a plan for peace.

"As I speak to you now, for the second consecutive day, and for the first time in many, many years, the leaders of the legitimate government of Lebanon and leaders from the government of Israel for the second day in a row," Rubio said while appearing in front of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday.

Trump and Netanyahu have ‘tactical disagreements’

12:10 p.m. ET: The Israeli Prime Minister admitted that he and President Trump had, what he called, a "tactical disagreement" during recent talks between the two leaders.

Netanyahu did not directly comment on a publicized phone call between him and President Trump, where Trump expressed displeasure with Netanyahu over the continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

"Sometimes we have, as in the best of families, you have these tactical disagreements," he told the outlet. He also added, "we always find a way to work them out, and we do so as great friends."

Oil reaches a one-week high

7:54 a.m. ET: Oil prices increased over 1% early Wednesday as attacks from both U.S. and Iran have increased, according to Reuters.

Brent Crude is up $1.05 to $97.05 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.01 to $94.77. Both are at a one-week-high.
